Human Design combines elements from the I Ching, astrology, the Kabbalah, the chakra system and modern physics. It's a holistic self-knowledge system. But you don't have to be into Human Design to enjoy this post; it will be about writing, as always, not about Human Design itself.
Specifically, we'll focus on SENSES identifies in Human Design, and which writing rituals would suit you the most based on your strongest sense. To discover what is yours, generate your Human Design for free.

1. SMELL
→ individuals understand the world through their sense of smell
→ this isn’t limited to physical aromas, but also metaphorical “sniffing out” situations or people, using a sort of intuition to navigate their environment
Writing rituals:
• use essential oils - lavender for calm, citrus for focus, cedarwood for grounding, etc
• light a candle
• keep fresh flowers at your writing desk
• use one scent consistently while writing so that just smelling it later can bring back that writing focus
2. TASTE
• individuals understand the world through their ability to discern and appreciate various flavors, which can extend beyond literal taste to include discernment in various aspects of life
• they may have a finely tuned sense of what is suitable for them and what is not, leading to refined choices not just in food, but also in relationships, activities, and environments.
Writing rituals:
• make yourself some tea just as you're getting down for writing
• have a snack of choice for extra motivation
• eat something delicious when you finish your writing session
• snack on something which supports creativity and inspiration - like blueberries, dark chocolate or bananas
3. OUTER VISION
• they perceive and interpret the external world visually. This extends beyond physical sight to an understanding of how things appear metaphorically. They may be more aware of appearances, aesthetics, body language, and visual cues, and use this information to navigate their decisions and interactions
Writing rituals:
• make an aesthetic board for your characters
• get yourself a beautiful notebook, pens, stickers
• play with lightening - try out different colors and intensities
• sit near a window or in a visually interesting space, like a café or in the garden
4. INNER VISION
• they perceive and interpret the external world through an inward focus, a keen sense of intuition, and the ability to envision possibilities and outcomes in one’s mind’s eye
• they have the capacity to perceive and understand their internal world, including their thoughts, feelings, and intuitions, and to use these insights to guide their decisions and actions
Writing rituals:
• visualization meditation
• keep a dream journal or a regular diary
• use writing to sort out your inner world, challenges and reflections
• imagine "movie trailers" for your stories (and make them, if you can)
5. FEELING
• characterized by an individual’s deep attunement to emotional and energetic sensations. This sense is about understanding and navigating the world based on emotional states, both their own and those of others. It may include an intuitive sense of people’s emotions or the emotional “temperature” of a situation, guiding these individuals in their interactions and decisions.
Writing rituals:
• body-scanning
• choose writing spaces where you feel emotionally safe and comfortable
• stretch, do yoga or qigong before writing to connect with your body
• breathing excersizes
6. TOUCH
• relates to an individual’s sensitivity to tactile sensations and physical contact. It extends beyond the physical to a profound understanding of others and the environment
• those with this sense might have an intuitive grasp of their body’s needs, a heightened sense of personal space, and a knack for conveying empathy and support through physical touch
Writing rituals:
• practice "self hugging" for writing more emotionally harsh scenes
• keep a crystal for creativity and inspiration nearby and play with it as you're thinking
• massage your hands before and after writing
• pick a smooth, pleasant blanket to hide under as you write
7. HEARING
• individuals interpret their external world mostly with the sense of hearing
• that includes awareness of the sounds from the environment, voices, music, speech
Writing rituals:
• create a writing playlist
• listen to ambient nature sounds
• use noise-canceling headphones to focus better (if you need more quiet)
• binaural beats or subliminals
