I don't know about you, but for me, a story becomes a real thing for me once I can visualize the main cast of characters, together with their imperfections and scars. And then, I go and search for pictures which would capture the essence of the characters, or some aesthetic pics of their world. I put it all together, and boom, I got a vision board for my story, and it's just so motivating to see it.
Today, I'll get a bit into how using aesthetic boards can help you in your writing process, and how exactly can you use them.
1. SET THE TONE
By using an aesthetic board and gathering a bunch of aesthetically pleasing pictures which capture the vibe of your story world you can get truly get into it. You can see its colors, structures. It all becomes a bit more real.
Is your story moody and gothic, or bright and whimsical? An aesthetic board can crystallize its atmosphere at a glance.
2. WORLD BUILDING
If you have troubles making up and visualizing parts of world building like architecture, plants, animals... You can solve it by getting inspired by numerous visuals. How does your MC's room look like? Or their school? Or the enchanted forest? Go on a search and describe what you see!
3. CHARACTER'S INDIVIDUALITY
Characters are more than just their personality and looks. Just like real humans, they should have their individual characteristics, like accessories they like to wear, their personal style, how do they style their hair.
Once you have a brief idea of your character's vibe, you can go search for some aesthetic pictures which would compliment them. Perhaps you'll see something that will fit so well it will stay in your story!
4. WRITING SHOULD BE FUN
This truth can be easily overlooked when we're focused on technicalities and results. But, underneath it all, writing should be a joyful, helpful activity that allows you to rest and create. So why not try aesthetic boards? It's all a part of the writing game. Don't be afraid to spice it up a bit~
Outside of aesthetic boards, you can also enhance your writing process with creating a playlist for your story or collecting inspiring quotes which fit your characters. Experiment and find what works the best for you!
