Writing magick

Making something new out of nothing sounds like magic, doesn't it? Actually, that's exactly what writing is: you breathe life into ideas and concepts, creating something new and unique.

Writing magick is the art of using words to not just tell stories, but also to shift the energy, heal and transform all through words.

Before we proceed, I just want to highlight: me and Nili only do white magic, harmless things, so you don't have to worry about that.

Words are spells. Whatever we say or write shifts the energy. A single sentence can soothe, ignite, or wound. I'm sure you know from experience how powerful words can be - both in creation and in destruction.

So how can this be used within the stories you write?

→ characters can be written as archetypes of energies you wish to embody or release, for example writing a character who is brave when you feel timid

sympathetic magic: channeling desires info symbolic form, using representation to shift reality

affirmations, recurring symbols, intentions

WRITING MAGICK FOR SELF-HELP AND HEALING

release writing: write down fears, doubts, or heavy emotions. When finished, burn or tear the pages to symbolically release them

manifestation journaling: write as if your desired reality already exists, for example “I am living in peace, surrounded by support and joy"

dialogues with the self: write conversations between you and your higher self, shadow self, or even your future self

transform affirmations into poems: instead of repeating “I am enough” mechanically, write a poem that embodies that truth

write letters you never send: to your past self, your future self, a loved one, or even to the universe. Letters can heal wounds, release resentment, and open doors to new opportunities

dreamscaping: before sleep, write a page describing the dream you want to have, or the insight you want to receive. Writing this way sets a magickal intention for your subconscious to explore during rest

BEYOND THE PAGE

Writing is only one facet of art magick; turning creativity into ritual. You can pair writing with other creative tools:

sigils: transform key words into symbols

• spoken incantations

• combine words with painting, collage, or photography to create physical talismans

• dance or gesture your spell

Next time you sit down to write, pause and ask:

→ What energy do I want to invite?

→ What do I want to release?

→ How can my words serve both my art and my soul?

WRITING MAGICK RITUALS TO TRY

Spell of the blank page for clarity

1. Light a candle and sit with a fresh page

2. Write the question you want clarity on at the top

3. Free-write for 10 minutes without stopping

4. Highlight any words or phrases that stand out - they are your messages from the subconscious

🪶 Story as sympathetic magic for transformation

1. Identify something you want to shift in your life (courage, healing, success)

2. Create a character who faces the same struggle

3. Write their story of transformation

4. Reread often. The story acts as a symbolic rehearsal for your own growth

🔑 Key word sigils for quick magic

1. Write a word that embodies your desire (like flow, strength, love)

2. Rewrite it in different stylized forms until one looks like a symbol

3. Keep it on your desk or notebook cover as a charm for your writing

Did you ever hear the term automatic writing?

Automatic writing, also known as psychographyis a writing technique where words are produced without conscious control - most often attributed to spiritual or subconscious influences. Most often people say it's because a spirit is writing through them, or the universe is trying to give them a message, or it's their higher self writing. It's a concept worth exploring, especially if you feel intrigued and drawn to it. Automatic writing is considered one of the psychic powers a person can posses.
