Let me start this post with an explanation for what IS tapping in the first place:
EFT tapping is a technique based on Chinese traditional medicine, which focuses on tapping the meridian points on your body to relieve symptoms of psychical and psychological distress. Our energy is believed to flow through those Meridian points, and any imbalance or disruption in this process can cause unpleasant emotions and pain.
Though still being researched, tapping has been used to treat people with anxiety and people with post-traumatic stress disorder.
...and I, personally, can strongly recommend it.
There are YouTube videos that can guide you through the process, and there are written materials on it too, so I'll not be getting too deep into its mechanics; after all it's a writing blog.
How can we, writers, use tapping? Tapping can help us release stress and fears, and even writer's block, healing whatever is stoping us or complicating the writing process.
1. try identifying what is it you're struggling with. Example: "I'm scared of failing"
2. while tapping the side of your hand, repeat a phrase like "Even thought I feel [put here your unpleasant feeling], I deeply and completely love and accept myself"
3. keep tapping the specific points while repeating your fear of unpleasant feeling (example: "failing... scared of failing")
4. keep tapping, and transition to positive statements, such as "I am ready for my creativity to flow"
5. continue the process until your emotional intensity or stress level decreases significantly
Soooo... When can you use tapping outside of having a writer's block?
→ when you procrastinate
→ when you feel defeated
→ when you can't be satisfied with your work no matter what
→ when you're scared to share your work with others
→ when you're scared of getting feedback
→ when something, ANYTHING, about writing stresses you out
I will now recommend a few guiding videos for tapping specifically for writers. When you understand the principle you'll be able to to it all on your own, but for beginners I would recommend:
