Behind the scenes: July, 2025

Hello, friends. Welcome to my very first Behind the scenes, where I share with you a bit about how my writing is going and what I'm up to these days. Of course feel free to share how your own writing is going; I love to read other writer's experiences. Let's suport each other on this creative journey.

July was a very creative time for me. I made a whole bunch of posts for this blog, I finished reading "Body keeps the score" and started "Myth of normal" from Gabor Mate and I'm loving it, new story came to life, and I keep working on other stories as well. But let's break it down, and let me tell you a bit more about this month.

At the beginning of July I had my exams from college. As you know, I'm studying psychology. It was strongly visible in the posts I made those days: Writing therapy, Creative rest, Messages from your nervous system in writing and The healing power of writing fiction. I'm really proud of all of them and I feel like by exploring this side of writing I fell in love with it even more - if it's even possible!

The posts were also influenced by the book I mentioned I'm reading this month. Gabor Mate talks a lot about how our psyche impacts our psychical health, and there's a lot of cool researches about health mentioned, so I strongly recommend giving it a try as well.

Just last week I returned from vacation with my partner. We visited Germany and Netherlands, and we loved Netherlands with our whole hearts. We had a chance to have a tour in a mine - and the moment we left, I began writing a new story.

The story doesn't have a name yet. I want it to be a shorter work, something like Narkissos was - keeping it under 30 000 words. It's a story about a boy who's going blind, living in the undergrounds together with his family as people are fighting above them in a war that's already lasting couple of years. The boy called Fabian deals with his traumatic reality by escaping into his head, into the lands far more colorful and friendly.

I only have one chapter so far, so it will probably be long before you'll be able to read it.

In the meantime, I keep working on Neon collapse. I didn't mention it to you yet, but it's a story I'm writing the most lately. It's placed in Japan, year 2193, and we follow an anti-government group called Hogosha as its members fight for their lives in the world that doesn't care about them. Of course it deals with the topics of trauma, loss, but also chosen family and toxic productivity.

Cover for this story is in making, so I'll post about it when it's ready. It's my very first sci-fi story (specifically cyberpunk), so it's very exciting and I hope you can enjoy it as well! Here's the first visual board for it:

I also work on two other stories of mine. One of them already has a post on this blog and it's called My nepenthe. Unfortunately, this month I didn't feel like writing it much, so it's waiting for me to take care of it again.

The other story is called Road never ends. It's a typical fantasy and the main character is an orphaned half-elf who's traveling thro distant lands, driven by guilt, on a never-ending search for the one she left behind years earlier. This story also is waiting for me to give it some attention again, and its cover is in making.

The last writing update I need to give you is the rewriting decision I made. "All of the lies we told" is the oldest story I shared here on the blog, and I've been writing it a few years ago, when I was just starting to experiment with writing in English. Add to that the fact that I've been writing bunch of fanfictions prior to that and you get not the best quality content. Since that time I've learned a lot of English grammar and writing technicalities and generally improved in my art. Therefore I came to a conclusion that I should rewrite this particular story and give it justice. As for now this story is unreachable on the blog, and I'll keep you updated on how the rewrite is going.

As for other things I'm spending time on: I strongly recommend the podcast from "Finding your casual magic" on friendships ("Why we're losing quality friendships"). Other than that, I loved watching "Gakkougurashi!", "K-pop: demon hunters", "Akatsuki no yona", "Given", "Vivy: Fluorite eye's song" and "Dark gathering". All of those are animations.

That's all about what I've been up to this month. For August, I wish to keep writing My nepenthe and that's the story I'll try to focus on. We'll see if it works out or not. I'll also continue with the AOTLWT rewrite. For this blog, I'm at the point where I started running out of ideas, so I have no clue what's about to come. I'll probably research something random again and that will inspire me to make posts.

Thank you for reading my first "Behind the scenes"! Keep creating,

Shell
