"Artist's way" - healing your artistic self

Whether you're a creative person struggling to create, a writer with a writing block or someone who wishes to live a more creative, mindful life, The Artist’s Way is something just for you. Its author, Julia Cameron, takes you on a twelve-week program of activities and exercises meant to help you with your creative self.

"Julia Cameron is credited with starting a movement in 1992 that has brought creativity into the mainstream conversation— in the arts, in business, and in everyday life. She is the best-selling author of more than forty-five books, fiction and nonfiction; a poet, songwriter, filmmaker and playwright. Commonly referred to as “The Godmother” or “High Priestess” of creativity" - juliacameronlive.com

"The artist's way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity" was self-published in 1992. The first printing was about 9,000 copies. The book soon went on to reach the Top 10 best seller list and onto the list of the Top 100 Best Self-Help Books of All Time.

The twelve weeks of the program are as follows:
1 week - Recovering a sense of safety
2 week - Recovering a sense of identity
3 week - Recovering a sense of power
4 week - Recovering a sense of integrity
5 week - Recovering a sense of possibility
6 week - Recovering a sense of abundance
7 week - Recovering a sense of connection
8 week - Recovering a sense of strength
9 week - Recovering a sense of compassion
10 week - Recovering a sense of self-protection
11 week - Recovering a sense of autonomy
12 week - Recovering a sense of faith

The basic tools you'll be using in the program are the morning pages, walks, artists date and writing for guidance.

The following explanations come from Julia Cameron's website:

Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning”. Doesn't matter what you're writing about - you can even complain about having to write it.

The Artist Date is a once-weekly, festive, solo expedition to explore something that interests you. Don't take any other people there with you, and listen to yourself; if something feels boring or mundane, drop it and try something else!

Two twenty-minute, solo walks per week will alter our consciousness and put us in touch with inspiration.

Writing for guidance is the practice of writing out a question, listening for the answer, and writing down what we “hear”.

...and that is just a bit on the book. If what you've read so far sparked an interest in you, go on and start your own journey with this unique self-help tool.
