Escapism is about seeking distraction or relief from not-so-exciting or pleasant aspects of life. Writing is one of the ways how to achieve it. By writing we can escape our reality for a moment, and create something we have complete control over. It gives us safe space to express ourselves and even heal.
It's usually a healthy kind of escape, unless it's overused. Engaging in your chosen form of escapism longer than you intended or even doing it subconsciously is concerning.
It becomes an issue if you use it to escape facing your emotions and deal with problems. That's avoidance, and it's not good. You should ask yourself why you are indulging in escapism in the first place. Is it to take a break, or you can't handle what you're feeling?
Unhealthy escapism occurs when the escape becomes a primary coping mechanism, leading to neglect of personal, professional, and social responsibilities. This can manifest in addictive behaviors, such as excessive drug use, overeating, or an unhealthy obsession with digital media. (Mentalhealth.com)
