BLURB is a “promotional piece accompanying a piece of creative work. It may be written by the author or publisher or quote praise from others”. (Wikipedia)
In books, you can usually find it on the back cover.
To write a blurb, you can use:
→ quotes from the book
→ book contents
Book Contents = (Situation or Character) + (Inciting Incident or Initial Problem) + Stakes (wiltgren.com)
→ information on the author
→ reviews
How to write a great blurb?
→ mention your MC
→ use a tone that matches the story
→ don't make it too long, use a few sentences only
→ read a lot of blurbs from the same genre as your story to understand what it is about them
→ make multiple versions, practise
→ a blurb isn't a synopsis. You're not going to describe your plot in one
→ there need to be some relevant, concrete details
→ find balance between too short and too long paragraphs of text; the rule of thumb is to target between 100 and 200 words
→ don't use prefatory language (such as “This novel starts with…”)
