Hello, friends!
Today, I'm going to talk a little about the IMMERSION and how to keep your story as immersive as possible.
Of course, not everyone’s goal in writing is for it to be immersive, we all have our ways. However, for me, immersion is an important part of a good story, and that's what I'm writing about.
Let's get into it! What is IMMERSION in the first place?
How to make an immersive story?
→ Add DETAILS, especially when there's some action happening. Don't limit your descriptions to sight or hearing - remember about smell, touch, taste
→ Write unexpected PLOT TWISTS, keep the reader on the edge, wanting to see what the next page holds
→ Don't bore the readers to death, keep the plot moving on. If what you're writing about feels monotone and like it doesn't bring anything new to the story, it's probably right
→ Of course, bad grammar, spelling mistakes and word repetition are all things that kill immersion right off the bat
→ Make sure there are characters the reader can relate to and “join” them on their adventure emotionally
→ SHOW NOT TELL (for example: instead of explaining that it's a tough battle, write about how the soldiers are suffering and how the grounds get soaked in blood)
→ well-done WORLD BUILDING is important for immersion, especially if you're the creator of the world. Make the world rich in details and make them matter!
→ avoid writing cliches. There's nothing interesting about reading the same sentence in every book. Even if it's very pretty - it loses all its magic if overused
→ don't overuse dialogue tags
“Dialogue tags help the reader know which character is speaking and are particularly useful when a new character enters a conversation. However, dialogue tags are not always necessary. If you’re writing a scene in which two characters are saying short lines of dialogue to each other, dialogue tags are probably not needed after the first time they’re used. You can simply indent and use quotation marks when a new person is speaking”

→ and at last: don't be afraid to be original!🤗
Read what you've written out loud to check if it sounds good. If something feels off, take a moment to think how to change it.
That's all from me for today. Good luck with writing immersive stories!
